Abu Dhabi, meaning ‘Father of the Gazelle’ in Arabic, was first settled by the Bani Yas Bedoiun tribe in the 16th century. According to archeological finds, Abu Dhabi was founded when a young antelope led a wandering tribe to fresh water on an island with barely 300 palm huts, a few coral buildings and a fort. The island settlement, led by its ruler Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed al-Nahyan, has since been transformed into the modern city of Abu Dhabi, the high-rise capital of the United Arab Emirates. Beneath its white-marble domes and Persian carpets, traditional hospitality and the highest standards of modern-day luxury come together. Here you will find a cosmopolitan city with strongly embedded Islamic traditions, a major tourist, commercial et centre d'affaires.
