Shankar Man Shrestha, Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Self-help Development
Mr. Shankar Man Shrestha is the pioneer microfinance practitioner in Nepal with more than 48 years of experience in the rural and microfinance industry. He is the Chairman and founder Executive Director of Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) which is the first licensed Non-Government Microfinance Institution (MFI) in Nepal. Mr. Shrestha is actively involved in the development and strengthening of the microfinance sector in Nepal through the network organizations of CSD.
He worked as the Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Microfinance Development Centre Ltd. (RMDC), a wholesale microfinance lending institution from its inception in 1999 till April 2014. Mr. Shrestha has a long history of work experience at the Agricultural Development Bank Ltd., leaving in the capacity of Deputy General Manager (Deputy CEO). He holds numerous position on the Board and Advisory Committee of organizations working in rural technology, development and training sectors.
He has a M.A. degree in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu and attended a special study on Agricultural Credit at the Texas A&M University, U.S.A. He has written several articles, reports and papers on the rural and microfinance sector which has been published in journals and magazines within the country and abroad.
