Yanki Tshering, Executive Director, Business Center for New Americans
Yanki Tshering has over twenty years of experience in developing and implementing economic development programs in New York City. She is the Executive Director of the Center for Community Development for New Americans, Inc. (CCDNA) d/b/a the Business Center for New Americans, Ms. Tshering played a key role in starting this organization which has received national recognition for its creative and sensible asset development programs for low to moderate income refugees and immigrants of New York City. The Business Center has made over $15 million in micro-loans and annually over 600 businesses owners attend workshops and receive technical assistance from the diverse staff at the Business Center. To date, over 1500 refugee individuals and families have graduated from the Center’s Individual Development Program for Refugees and invested over $24 million in assets like home-ownership and small business. In 2012, Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented Ms. Tshering with the Business Leadership Award for her role in expanding opportunities for immigrants and for helping make New York a city of promise for families of all backgrounds. www.nybcna.org

Ms. Tshering has a Masters in International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University with a functional specialization in Economic Development and a regional specialization in South Asian Studies. She is a board member of Credit Builders Alliance (CBA) www.creditbuildersalliance.org, a national organization in the United States, that helps organizations move people from poverty to prosperity through asset building.
